Date: 2015-08-23 01:04 pm (UTC)I found DAO on Steam sometime in 2013, I think it was, and had already been playing Star Wars: the Old Republic as well as Knights of the Old Republic. In all these Bioware games the variety of vivid characters are what I love best! I've played through each of the DA games thrice or more by now, but DA2 - with its ESPECIALLY interesting characters - is the one I find myself coming back to most often for fandom.
I've just recently started writing DA fanfic, which takes the form of a series of stories about Hawke & co. working with the Inquisition. My "canon" Hawke for the story was a mage romancing Fenris, and her "I didn't want to give him the chance to die for me" when asked why he didn't come with her to Skyhold in DAI started me on this path. :-) So, so much potential for fanworks in that pairing - which is why my favorites by other creators tend to also feature Fenhawke, primarily anything by loquaciousquark, of which my favorites are Ascendi and Spire and River Stone and, well, several more. Other favorite fics: Reading Lessons by Hawkeye733, Wander Wild and Far by spirrum, and I'm currently eagerly awaiting the next part of Find Your Own Way Back Home by locketofyourhair. Besides Fenhawke, I also love the idea of Carver/Merrill (making part 2 of my Hawkquisition series, The Apostate's Templar, which features them, my favorite) and am working on a short piece for them now which is essentially a prequel to The Apostate's Templar. And in pairings I love but haven't written for yet, Cullen/Trevelyan is marvelously done in the epistolary fic Letters from the Field by Clockwork Mockingbird. I like Solavellan too but have read surprisingly little of it. Mostly because I keep filing away the links to those stories while I'm still working my way through all the Fenhawke ones I have bookmarked!
My PCs:
- the "canon" playthrough referenced in the series I'm writing has Lisbet Hawke, mage, romancing Fenris; Thayer Trevelyan, daggers rogue, romancing Josephine; and, though she's off on that cure-hunt and not likely to make fic appearances now, Ranna Cousland as Alistair's queen. Lisbet was a mostly diplomatic Hawke, a bit paranoid and overly cautious about her own magic who therefore sort of overcorrected by siding with the Templars and becoming Viscountess for a while. Thayer is a sanguine fellow, a huge tease and extrovert who seems to know everybody, from advisors down to Soldier Jim, well enough to stop and chat about their families as he makes his rounds of Skyhold, and has a knack for bringing out the best in his people. As the youngest Trevelyan child he was cheeky and spoiled but is finding that running the Inquisition is the perfect fit for him, and he hopes to get a lot of good done there.
- I've got some story ideas marinating also for Satine Lavellan, Dalish mage and Solasmancer. None of my other various playthroughs have as yet inspired fanworks, but the day is young.
