Date: 2015-08-23 04:45 am (UTC)My brief DA history: I picked up the Ultimate Edition of DAO in 2011, and I've pretty much been hooked on the series ever since. I was pretty active in the DA fandom on Tumblr for a couple of years, and I've been on DW for close to a year. I actually wasn't a huge fan of RPGs prior to DA, but a friend sold me on it when she mentioned I could play as a lady. I was pretty immediately swept up in the lore and the relationships with my companions.
I'm a bit of a Jane of all trades--I do fan art, edits, fic, and cosplay. My favorite fan art would probably be my Josie portrait from earlier this year. I tend to have a lot of conflicting feelings about my writing, but I generally feel good about Vigilant (ft. Circle Bethany and Cullen) and Sway (ft. Marian Hawke and Sebastian).
I'm pretty consistently amazed by the talent in this fandom, but prose_wanderer is one of my favorite writers and needlesslycryptic one of my favorite artists.
A few links to my other fan spaces:
AO3
Sin to Heaven - DA Inspo Blog [NSFW]
Rhiannon Hawke - Blog devoted to my favorite, slightly canon-divergent Hawke (still kind of under construction)
Melisande Trevelyan - Blog devoted to my favorite Inquisitor
So, yeah. I'm really excited to see this comm take off!
Greetings!
Date: 2015-08-23 01:04 pm (UTC)I found DAO on Steam sometime in 2013, I think it was, and had already been playing Star Wars: the Old Republic as well as Knights of the Old Republic. In all these Bioware games the variety of vivid characters are what I love best! I've played through each of the DA games thrice or more by now, but DA2 - with its ESPECIALLY interesting characters - is the one I find myself coming back to most often for fandom.
I've just recently started writing DA fanfic, which takes the form of a series of stories about Hawke & co. working with the Inquisition. My "canon" Hawke for the story was a mage romancing Fenris, and her "I didn't want to give him the chance to die for me" when asked why he didn't come with her to Skyhold in DAI started me on this path. :-) So, so much potential for fanworks in that pairing - which is why my favorites by other creators tend to also feature Fenhawke, primarily anything by loquaciousquark, of which my favorites are Ascendi and Spire and River Stone and, well, several more. Other favorite fics: Reading Lessons by Hawkeye733, Wander Wild and Far by spirrum, and I'm currently eagerly awaiting the next part of Find Your Own Way Back Home by locketofyourhair. Besides Fenhawke, I also love the idea of Carver/Merrill (making part 2 of my Hawkquisition series, The Apostate's Templar, which features them, my favorite) and am working on a short piece for them now which is essentially a prequel to The Apostate's Templar. And in pairings I love but haven't written for yet, Cullen/Trevelyan is marvelously done in the epistolary fic Letters from the Field by Clockwork Mockingbird. I like Solavellan too but have read surprisingly little of it. Mostly because I keep filing away the links to those stories while I'm still working my way through all the Fenhawke ones I have bookmarked!
My PCs:
- the "canon" playthrough referenced in the series I'm writing has Lisbet Hawke, mage, romancing Fenris; Thayer Trevelyan, daggers rogue, romancing Josephine; and, though she's off on that cure-hunt and not likely to make fic appearances now, Ranna Cousland as Alistair's queen. Lisbet was a mostly diplomatic Hawke, a bit paranoid and overly cautious about her own magic who therefore sort of overcorrected by siding with the Templars and becoming Viscountess for a while. Thayer is a sanguine fellow, a huge tease and extrovert who seems to know everybody, from advisors down to Soldier Jim, well enough to stop and chat about their families as he makes his rounds of Skyhold, and has a knack for bringing out the best in his people. As the youngest Trevelyan child he was cheeky and spoiled but is finding that running the Inquisition is the perfect fit for him, and he hopes to get a lot of good done there.
- I've got some story ideas marinating also for Satine Lavellan, Dalish mage and Solasmancer. None of my other various playthroughs have as yet inspired fanworks, but the day is young.

Date: 2015-08-23 07:19 pm (UTC)I've actually only been playing Dragon Age for a few months (like three), but I'm kinda obsessed. It's a problem, but one I don't mind living with. ;)
I only started playing Dragon Age because I needed an RPG to play while I lent my brother my Skyrim game. Best decision of my life, no lie.
As far as fanworks, I haven't done any DA works yet. I'm a writer, so I'll be contributing fanfiction to this community. I'm kind of worried because I get pretty ambitious with my ideas, and I don't want to start something I won't finish (actually I don't wanna start something that was meant to be short and then end up making it 50K+ words).
As far as favorite fanfiction, I have too many. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for Modern-Girl-in-Thedas works. Ooh, and Time Travel fanfics. I've only found one Time Travel fic, though... (so sad)
My favorite player character right now is my elfy Inquistor, Ellana. In my mind, she's the twin sister of Mahanon (and he's the inquisitor, not her) and the clan First. She also has a very progressive mindset regarding the relations between the Dalish and Thedas (and totally plans to blackmail Empress Celene into giving the Inquistion the Dales in order to restore her people *cough*). I also have a headcanon where she befriends Adaar, Cadash and Trevelyan (and I think I'll write about that in the prompts cuz wow it's a lot more complicated now that I think about it).
Anyway, I've never heard of Dreamwidth before, but I joined just for this community. Can't wait. :D
New to both Dreamwidth AND Dragon Age!
Date: 2015-08-23 09:05 pm (UTC)My favorite aspects of Dragon Age is the story and the characters! I love how I can develop my character over the course of the game (and do more development myself outside of the game).
I did a really bad comic about Team Corypheus doing team building between the Venatori and the Red Templars. It didn't go too well...
Pretty much, I can't pick just one - everyone makes such amazing artwork!!
My favorite has to be a three way tie between my sarcastic/joking Cedric Hawke, my cinnamon roll mage Francis Trevelyan and my angry elf Camila Lavellan! I'm planning to make a few character blogs on Tumblr when I the time!! I haven't developed my future Warden enough to get a better picture of them! I'm just barely leaving the Circle... !
Looking forward to working on some prompts here!
New-ish?
Date: 2015-08-24 01:22 am (UTC)I got dragon age 2 first because I'd seen stuff on tumblr about inquisition and I was really excited that inquisition had Krem so I was hoping for queer characters in the other games too (not terribly disappointed lol). But I love how the story makes you feel super involved from the first cutscene and theyre able to wrap you in this intense story and plot.
hmm well i've got a lot of fanart on my art blog but right now im actually proudest of my new fic Oh, Calamity which is also my first dragon age fic so hooray for that lol.
hmmmm i have such a hard time picking favorite artists, i got a couple rad mutuals tho! lord-gaybe, prongsied and krisseycrystal are all super cool peeps and i've been doing a collab with tklivory for the cullrian minibang on tumblr and theyre cool too.
Right now im head over heels in my own head for Han'rel Mahariel who pretty much looks at the accepted canon and chucks it out a three story building window. I wont ruin anything but he is just a really fun character to me especially because I get to use all the super salty replies in origins
Hi!
Date: 2015-08-24 08:16 pm (UTC)I write fic as TheLynx on AO3, I post fandom things on tumblr as smolgaylynx on tumblr, I post fanart on artisticlynx, and I do art RP stuff on rplynx. (Note that all links may contain NSFW or triggering content and my fandom blog contains some critical posts, which I know is not everyone's jam. But I have no problem with people who like things I'm critical of so don't feel afraid to approach me!) You can call me Lynx or Lynxy or Roy or anything similar, and I use he/they pronouns (no preference between the two).
My favorite part of Dragon Age used to be just playing through the stories and seeing what happened. The characters were my windows to the DA world and nothing more. My Surana had no personality whatsoever, Hawke was just Garrett Hawke, and my first Lavellan was just... there, sort of. But sometime during my first Inquisition playthrough I dipped into DA fandom and... well. I love creative fandom and I've immersed myself in it.
I'm new to art, but so far this is the piece I'm most proud of. I'll probably have a new one in a week or two. And this sketch is one of my favorites right now. The fic I'm most proud of is my longfic, the one that follows my headcanon, and a close second favorite is this little piece of bullavellan fluff.
My favorite works by other creators... Well, I've got my AO3 bookmarks and I've got a #fanart tag on my tumblr. The creators that come to mind right now are numin-lavellan and lavellahn, but I love so many more. (Bullavellan (m/m or m/nb) is my weak spot though.)
My favorite two PCs are Mahanon Lavellan (he pronouns) and Cyrnarel Istimaethoriel Lavellan (he/they pronouns). They're both vaguely 25-35 in all universes, and they're a bonded couple in my headcanon. Mahanon is the clan's First and a pretty laid back guy, and Cyrn is a dual-dagger hunter who's really prickly and really hates humans, and they're the one who becomes Herald (but Ellana becomes Inquisitor). Dorian/Mahanon and Bull/Cyrn happens as well, and Mahanon (who is trans) has triplets with Cyrn and one kid with Dorian, so they make a big happy polyamorous family. They both have multiple mental disabilities, and as far as I know Cyrn is the only DA fandom elf with BPD and Mahanon one of only two with Tourette's, so they're very important and dear to me. Writing my own representation and all. (I mean, they kind of have self-insert qualities too, but that's okay.)
Anyway this is really long already. I'll probably start by posting art/comics here, depending on the prompts, because I've been taking a break from writing fic, but we'll see.

Date: 2015-09-18 10:55 pm (UTC)My partner had gotten a recommendation from another DW user to try DAI, and so she bought a copy for our PS4. She "made the mistake" (her words ;) ) of asking me to try it out and see if it would actually appeal to her. This happened in May, and she has yet to play any of the various DA games in our household. I was so enamored by DA, that I cashed in all of my Gamestop Powerup points and got the least expensive PS3 I could buy (along with a library of Bioware games to boot). It has been wonderful, and I regret nothing!
% I'm on AO3 as maramcreates (and on ff.net as well, though I've got nothing posted there for now). There are other services/names that I use, but feel free to PM for those.
% I can't stress enough how much it means to me to be able to play a woman romantically involved with another woman. I'm sure that I still would have loved the DA universe, even without that element, though it certainly would have been much less fulfilling. That said, DA has *ruined* most other RPGs for me. I've picked up games that I would have happily played in April, and just "meh"ed at them.
% So far, I've only completed one DA fanfic (posted here), and I'm contemplating others. I've drawn one DA fanwork, but haven't posted it anywhere yet. That will likely change sometime soon.
% I'll have to say that I've come across many awesome works in my short foray into DA fandom - the skill and love of the creators is plainly evident! If I had to chose just one work to plug, it would probably have to be Snafu1000's "Moments In Time" (posted here on AO3).
% My favorite player character has changed the more DA I play, but currently it's my Elissa Cousland (dual wielding rogue). I've played her as a woman who was adamant that she didn't want to become a Grey Warden, and was forced to undergo the Joining ritual under the threat of death. She sees the Grey Wardens as a cult, and has no desire to do anything that would benefit them - kill the Archdemon, yes, but nothing more. While DAO doesn't have much room in the player response options to take this perspective to its conclusion, I've improvised here and there. Also, as an unabashed altoholic, here are other player characters that I enjoy playing: Warden Kallian Tabris; Warden Natia Brosca; Champion Marian Hawke; Inquisitor Evelyn Trevelyan; Inquisitor Malika Cadash; Inquisitor Herah Adaar. As far as shipping goes, I have a soft spot for female player characters involving themselves with Leliana, Isabella, and Sera. I'm also one sad sucker for sappy scenes, and cooties.
