Date: 2015-12-29 04:17 pm (UTC)I keep a general inspiration blog (NSFW--browse with caution) for all my main Dragon Age OCs, so I usually start by pulling from images I've reblogged there. I haven't updated this list in a while, but those are some of the blogs I follow for inspo photos and whatnot.
Selecting the final images is a little bit trial and error depending on what I think just looks good together. For this particular set, I knew I wanted to use a lot of warm colors, especially red, and focus on things that might create a sense of what home was like for her (food, clothing, family, architecture/landscape).
I use Photoshop, so I'm a big fan of using adjustment layers to manipulate the curves and levels of the images, and PS actions. I have a few in my dA favorites. Most of the time I just use a few alterations to create some unity with the colors and as a finishing touch for setting the mood.
Hope this helps!

Date: 2016-03-08 07:03 pm (UTC)The daydream prompt is getting my moodboard drive going again. It's definitely a great way to unwind, and I am in need of that right now.
I'm in ur old posts, soakin' up the inspo

I liked this when I saw it on tumblr but that isn't a place for convo. I need to start making mood boards like these and, damn, yours look so good. <3
Time for me to flex my wimpy photoshop curves/levels/filters muscles.
Do have any suggestions on etiquette for using other people's photos/imagery, either whole or crops? I've been looking in at images marked for public domain (re)use but I'd rather just take from whatever inspires and then make little credit links back to the originals.

I have been really bad and inconsistent when it comes sourcing images. Most of the time, I don't see people crediting at all, and I sometimes fall into that trap of ethically dubious laziness; this is especially true of commercial photography of models or Tumblr posts that have, like, more than 50k notes. I'm a lot more cautious about using images from other sites, though, like stock from deviantART.
I do try to put a little section for sources in the description, though, and link back to the source accordingly. I think that's probably the best approach, although it can be a lot of work for larger sets. This is an example of how I usually format them.
I think the biggest problems when it comes to sourcing for something that came from Tumblr is 1) not even really being sure if that's the real source and 2) ever changing and thus breaking URLs.
